4-24-03 Spyware

For the first time in many years, I bought a PC Magazine (in the airport, before a flight). The attack of the Internet on print media and resulting dramatic slimming has been very good for this magazine. The size is now manageable, and I basically read all of it! It also had a very useful couple of articles on spyware and reviews of the programs to fix it. The best one (the PC Mag editor's choice) turned out to be Spybot search & Destroy, which I downloaded (it's free, but he asks for donations if you like it; I sent $25 because I am glad someone put in all that effort to make a good product), ran and it seemed to do the trick. If you start getting annoying windows popping up when you're not even browsing the Internet (another tribute to Microsoft's so-called "security"), it's spyware and you should download and run this program.
